It’s no secret that the Nandi team loves animals and that we care deeply about the environment. We believe that pets need to eat healthy food that improves their welfare which is why we do all we can to grow sustainable food systems and practices.  Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it informs Nandi’s vision across the entire business and brand.

What sustainability means to us, is that we can account for and trace all our ingredients to their source.  Our proteins are free from hormones and routine antibiotics, and they have no artificial preservatives, added grains, or unnatural fillers. All our ingredients, meats, and novel proteins are natural and ethically sourced from farmers we know and trust.  This means that while we would love to produce some of our fan-favorite bones all year round, we can only offer some products seasonally the way nature sustainably intended.

Sustainability also means minimizing waste and we do this in four ways:

• Our proteins are never raised with the sole purpose of producing pet treats. Our treats are sustainably produced using the protein not used during human meat processes. This ensures that more of the healthy, naturally reared animal is used and less food waste is created when producing Nandi protein treats;
• We process our proteins and ingredients as little as possible and rely on natural cooking and smoking methods. This minimizes our energy consumption and sustains our products’ natural goodness, taste, and nutritional value.
• We’re minimizing our carbon footprint. Our heating processes (produced by water and steam) are recycled and our factory runs on solar panels powered by the bright sub-Saharan sun.
• Finally, our pragmatic packaging ensures that we minimize environmental waste. We use minimal recyclable packaging which is made from recycled materials, that maximizes shelf-life and is easy to store and carry.
